Shaftesbury town is the only significant hilltop settlement in Dorset ,England and is located 20 miles west of Salisbury near the border with Wiltshire.

It is a beautiful market town with so much to offer – ancient cobbled streets, independent shops and cafés, a museum, stunning views over the Blackmore Vales, a 14th Century church and the remains of an abbey, built by King Alfred the Great, dating back to 888. It also boasts ‘Gold Hill’, which was used in the famous Hovis advert.

It is also within easy reach of several heritage sights including Stonehenge to the east, Bath and Bristol to the north and the Jurassic Coast to the south. It’s a perfect place to stop-off for a day or two on your way to explore the south-west.
